Roughly translated Las Mingas means “for the good of all”. This month take the opportunity to taste a truly excellent Colombian coffee AND be part of a truly unique coffee program. Orchestrated by Virmax (an exporter of Colombian coffee committed not just to quality but also to getting earned premiums to actual farmers) and US brokers Castle and Company, the Las Mingas project allowed a select group of roasters Small World was the smallest to work directly with small lot farmers in Cuaca, Colombia.

Over 1500 lots of coffee were systematically cupped and graded by Castle and Virmax, and dozens were then passed on to participating roasters for final selection. All participating farmers were paid substantially higher prices than they would receive through normal channels. The goal of this “relationship” coffee model is allow roasters to work directly with farmers, and to help farmers get the highest prices for producing exceptional quality. Our Las Mingas Colombian is a blend of the two lots our cuppers most preferred.
